The History of Missing Link Music
The President of Missing Link Music has been working in the
publishing sector for most of his career. From his earlier
days at Hit & Run Music, JD witnessed hip-hop classics
being administered by Tommy Boy Records publishing
division. After moving on to Ad Copy & Promotions at Sony,
in 1994 he was introduced by a record executive to two hip
hop producers who needed help collecting their royalties.
One had worked for multi-platinum R&B artist Joe and the
other with legendary Tony Toni Tone. Over the next few years,
Missing Link Music grew through referrals to where it is today, a leader in music publishing and copyright administration with thousands of songs from every genre in its catalog.
An Industry Leader
Today we are one of the music industry's leading music publishing
and copyright administration companies covering all genres
of music from R&B and rock to hip-hop to jazz and all
styles in between. We collect royalties for you through our
long-established relationships with both major and independent
labels including Universal, Sony, Island Def Jam Music Group,
Disney, J, Capitol/EMI, Atlantic, Jive, BMG, RCA, Warner Brothers,
Elektra, Virgin and many more.
Missing Link's clients include songwriters, producers and
artists who have written for: Madonna, Elvis Presley, James
Brown, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Britney Spears,
Luther Vandross, P. Diddy, Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton,
DMX, Ja Rule, Public Enemy and many more. We have facilitated
soundtrack placements with Dreamworks, Miramax, Sony Pictures,
Paramount Pictures, 20th Century Fox, ESPN, MTV, VH1, UPN,
NBC and many more.
Many of the record labels and media companies which use our
song catalog already have agreements in place with Missing
Link Music which help facilitate and streamline the licensing
process, speeding up the flow of royalties to you. The result:
With streamlined negotiations, you are paid your royalties
faster and more efficiently.
A Diverse Catalog
Unlike some publishing companies, we are open to all styles
of music and administer songs traversing a wide range of styles
- The bottom line: we administer all kinds of music and want
to hear yours.
We are dedicated to helping artists, writers and producers
- regardless of genre--license their songs and recover royalty
money in the U.S. and abroad from the companies that have
recorded their music.

he immediately moved to New York and landed a position as
an advertising copy writer at Sony Music, all while moonlighting
as a session guitarist and singer/songwriter. In 1994 a songwriter
who had written hits with R&B singer Joe requested JDs
help with setting up his music publishing and completing his
US and international royalty collection. Missing Link Music
was born. 10 years and hundreds of hits later, Missing Link
has grown to become one of the leading music publishing and
copyright administration companies in the U.S.
