Born in London, England, Joel began his professional music career early, landing roles as a keyboardist and Musical Director for urban artists including Ronny Jordan. His exceptional talent and work ethic led to world tours with iconic artists such as Des'ree, the Eurythmics, Tina Turner, and Janet Jackson. Transitioning from live performance to production, Joel was recruited by a New York production company where he wrote and produced for major acts like Carole King, Luther Vandross, Joe, and Brian McKnight. Notably, he co-wrote the Grammy-nominated “Coming Back Home” and Joe’s Billboard #1 hit “Let’s Stay Home Tonight.” His work also appeared on the soundtracks for Hitch and Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
Relocating to Montreal in 2000, Joel continued collaborating with artists internationally while integrating into the Canadian music scene. He was appointed Musical Director for Chantal Chamandy’s landmark concert with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and scored the independent film Hit by Lightning. He later rejoined Tina Turner as her pianist for her final world tour and participated in the official Michael Jackson tribute tour in 2010—both career highlights. From 2017 to 2023, Joel served as Director of Music and Arts at Resurrection Center Church. His recent film scoring work has earned him multiple accolades, including Best Composer awards for Who’s Behind Black Art. Currently, he is the Musical Director for the IMANI Gospel Singers and continues to create, collaborate, and inspire through music and mentorship.
